The holidays can feel tough after a big life change like divorce, but it’s still possible to make this season meaningful and full of joy. In this episode of Cover Your Assets, Jade and I share our perspectives about starting fresh traditions, co-parenting with care, and finding happiness in giving back.
We get it—the holidays can bring up a mix of emotions after a divorce. It’s easy to feel stressed or even a little down. But here’s the thing: if you focus on the good stuff, no matter how small, it can really change how you feel. Maybe it’s your kids’ laughter, a cozy cup of cocoa, or just a quiet moment to yourself. Gratitude is powerful, and it helps you move forward.
One of the best parts about starting fresh is creating new traditions! These don’t have to be expensive or complicated—maybe it’s baking cookies, a holiday movie marathon, or going for a walk to see the Christmas lights. The point is to do things that feel good and create memories you can look forward to each year.
Co-parenting during the holidays isn’t always easy, but the focus should always be on what’s best for the kids. Agreeing on things like gift budgets or how to share time can take a lot of the stress out of the season. Even if you’re living in separate homes, showing your kids you can still work together is one of the best gifts you can give them.
One of my favorite parts of the holidays is finding ways to give back. It could be something small like writing a thank-you card, helping a neighbor, or volunteering with your kids. Not only does it brighten someone else’s day, but it makes you feel good too. Plus, it’s a great way to teach kids the true spirit of the holidays.
Let’s be real—holiday stress is a thing. Shopping, traveling, hosting… it can all pile up. Our advice? Keep it simple. The best moments don’t come from expensive gifts or perfect plans; they come from spending time with the people you care about.
The holidays might look different now, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be special. This is your chance to create something new, something that works for you and your family. Remember, the magic of the season isn’t in the stuff. Focus on what matters—kindness, love, and the little joys.
You’ve got this, and we’re here cheering you on!
